OK here we go again

I have put everything back to normal for now.

Ewing,

What is the origional entry in the Scenery.cfg for the Addon Scenery in Fsim.? Mine shows -

[Area.037]
Title=Propeller Objects
Local=Scenery\props
Layer=37
Active=TRUE
Required=TRUE
Remote=

[Area.038]
Title=Addon Scenery
Local=..\Flight Simulator 9
Remote=
Active=TRUE
Required=FALSE
Layer=38

Is this correct? As I have now put everything back to the origional without any additional scenery added.

I have added this

[Area.039]
Title=Addon Scenery
Local=E:\
layer=39
Active=TRUE
Required=TRUE
Remote=

By the way....What does the "Remote=" refer to?

Now when I try to Edit it in the Library, - I get a message that .."Area Addon Scenery is required and cannot be edited"

I think this is getting all too complicated and I might just go back to the origional.

Regards
John

I can't get the bloody thing to work, so I'm going back to the origional settings and leaving it in the Fsim. folder.

When I alter the .cfg file manually it just rebuilds it every time the Fsim starts and sometimes with some really strange entries..

I thought I had stuffed the whole thing up before with all sorts of wierd entries in it, and the Library telling me..."Addon Scenery is required and cannot be Edited (or deleted)"... even when I ended up with two of them, - so, - as I don't know enough about it I'll leave it as is for now.

Ewing..

Thanks for all your help anyway....

One more quick question please....

Do the added sceneries in the Addon Scenery folder go above or below the Addon Scenery layer in the Scenery Library when adding them to Fsim9?

John:
This is all very strange. I moved mine without a problem, and apparently, other people did, as well. There must be a simple explanation.
What is the origional entry in the Scenery.cfg for the Addon Scenery in Fsim.? Mine shows -

[Area.037]
Title=Propeller Objects
Local=Scenery\props
Layer=37
Active=TRUE
Required=TRUE
Remote=

[Area.038]
Title=Addon Scenery
Local=..\Flight Simulator 9
Remote=
Active=TRUE
Required=FALSE
Layer=38

Is this correct? As I have now put everything back to the origional without any additional scenery added.

I have added this

[Area.039]
Title=Addon Scenery
Local=E:\
layer=39
Active=TRUE
Required=TRUE
Remote=
If you put the Addon Scenery folder back in the Flight Simulator 9 folder, it should read Local=Addon Scenery

Delete the Area.39 entry, entirely. If you have more Areas below it, you need to renumber them sequentially. Each Area should have it's own number (i.e., no duplicate Area.numbers).
By the way....What does the "Remote=" refer to?
Haven't a clue. All of mine are blank.
Do the added sceneries in the Addon Scenery folder go above or below the Addon Scenery layer in the Scenery Library when adding them to Fsim9?
If you have addon sceneries for a specific location, say Amsterdam or Hong Kong, installed in the Addon Scenery folder, you'll want to put that above the addon scenery folder, using the "move up" button in the scenery library within FS. That way, if you have a basic modified AFCAD that's sitting in your Addon Scenery folder, when you install a scenery for a specific place, the new scenery will be displayed. Specific airports usually come with their own AFCAD and aren't compatible with the default scenery. You'll want to use the AFCAD that comes with the new scenery. Placing it above the Addon Scenery will ensure the correct one is used. If you have multiple sceneries for the same area, the one that is stacked highest ( the higher layer number) gets displayed. This is true for everything except landclass, which works the opposite. I don't know why MS did it that way.

Additionally, if you do, at some poiint, move your addon scenery folder to another location, any sceneries installed there, with their own entry in the scenery library, must also be pointed to the new location. Naturally, it'd be easier to move the folder when it's empty, than wait until you have added 20 sceneries.

I'm not sure what's going on, but I suspect it all goes back to moving, rather than copying the folder to it's new location. When you start FS, it needs to find the original folder in it's original location. At the same time, it will need to find the new folder in it's new location, when you point to it in the scenery library. That's why I just copied mine, then deleted the original after the settings took in FS.

It's also important to work within the scenery library, or with the scenery.cfg. But, not both at the same time. That way, new settings aren't lost because you had one of the files open, which would make them uneditable.

If you still want to move it, just work within the scenery library in FS and follow the steps I took above, to the letter. Make sure you're logged in to Windoze as an administrator.

If that doesn't fix it, I have a couple of other tricks up my sleeve. Let me know how it goes. :wink:

Ewing,

Sorry for the delay again, I was away for work.

I saw a mention on the other VA that I can use a folder on another drive and call it anything, so I have created a folder called "Flightsim Scenery" on my other drive (which is 'E' not 'D' as previously mentioned.

There may have been some previous conflict with calling the other folder "Addon Scenery"

I have moved some added scenery to this folder, and then edited the entries in the Scenery Library to point there instead of to the Addon Scenery in Fsim.

It seems to work fine, the Scenery Library accepted the changes without any trouble, but I noticed the Scenery.cfg file has that horrible jumble at the bottom again so I have edited it manually.

A bit of a look at the .cfg now it is fixed......

[Area.038]
Title=Addon Scenery
Local=..\Flight Simulator 9
Layer=38
Active=TRUE
Required=TRUE
Remote=

[Area.039]
Title=Adelaide International
Local=E:\Flightsim Scenery\Adel_Intl
Layer=45
Active=TRUE
Required=FALSE
Remote=

[Area.040]
Title=London Heathrow
Local=E:\Flightsim Scenery\London Heathrow 2008
Layer=40
Active=TRUE
Required=FALSE
Remote=

[Area.041]
Title=Honolulu International
Local=E:\Flightsim Scenery\PHNL2006_LR
Layer=41
Active=TRUE
Required=FALSE
Remote=

[Area.042]
Title=New York. J.F.Kennedy
Local=E:\Flightsim Scenery\FRF-KJFKv3
Remote=
Active=TRUE
Required=FALSE
Layer=42

[Area.043]
Title=VOZ Landclass
Local=Addon Scenery\VOZ Landclass
Remote=
Active=TRUE
Required=FALSE
Layer=43

[Area.044]
Title=VOZ Scenery
Local=Addon Scenery\VOZ Scenery
Remote=
Active=TRUE
Required=FALSE
Layer=44

[Area.045]
Title=VOZ EZ-Library
Local=Addon Scenery\VOZ EZ-Library
Remote=
Active=TRUE
Required=FALSE
Layer=45

As you can see I have the VOZ scenery on aswell.

I don't know if this was the problem but it works OK now so I think I'll leave it as is and see what happens.

Thanks for all your help.

John

I see you're anal, like me, with the scenery.cfg. I always like to clean it up so I can easily tell what I've got. As long as you got it moved and it's all working like it should in FS, I wouldn't mess with it, either. 8)

Yup Ewing, I have to otherwise every time I add something the end of the scenery.cfg goes like this......

[Area.046]
Title=Juliana
Local=E:\Flightsim Scenery\Juliana
Remote=
Active=TRUE
Required=FALSE
Layer=46

[Area.047]
Title=Dallas Ft. Worth
Local=E:\Flightsim Scenery\FRF-KDFWv3
Remote=
Active=TRUE
Required=FALSE
Layer=47

[Area.048]
Title=Miami
Local=E:\Flightsim Scenery\FRF-KMIA
Remote=
Active=TRUE
Required=FALSE
Layer=48
[Area.049]
Title=Kahului
Local=E:\Flightsim Scenery\KahuluiV2
Remote=
Active=TRUE
Required=FALSE
Layer=49
[Area.050]
Title=Lihue
Local=E:\Flightsim Scenery\Lihue2
Remote=
Active=TRUE
Required=FALSE
Layer=50

.....And usualy the Layer numbers and Area numbers are all over the place.

Anyway, enough of this.

It seems to work like this and saves space on the C drive so I'll leave it how it is and clean the cfg file manually each time.

Thanks again for the help Ewing.

Just one more to show what happens, surely Fsim9 can't work well with this......

[Area.050]
Title=Lihue
Local=E:\Flightsim Scenery\Lihue2
Remote=
Active=TRUE
Required=FALSE
Layer=50

[Area.051]
Title=Denver
Local=E:\Flightsim Scenery\Denver
Remote=
Active=TRUE
Required=FALSE
Layer=51
[Area.052]
Title=Atlanta
Local=E:\Flightsim Scenery\FRF-KATLv2
Remote=
Active=TRUE
Required=FALSE
Layer=52
[Area.053]
Title=Rwy 12 Sceneries
Local=E:\Flightsim Scenery\Rwy 12 Sceneries
Remote=
Active=TRUE
Required=FALSE
Layer=55
[Area.054]
Title=Houston
Local=E:\Flightsim Scenery\FL390 KIAH v2
Remote=
Active=TRUE
Required=FALSE
Layer=53
[Area.055]
Title=FL390 EZ-Inland River Barges
Local=E:\Flightsim Scenery\FL390 EZ-Inland River Barges
Remote=
Active=TRUE
Required=FALSE
Layer=54

That's how it comes out after adding sceneries so I have to clean it up manually
