MD-11F ops?

Here is where the coffee machine and Coke machine are kept. Please clean up after yourself and do not remove the magazines from this area. A good place to exchange thoughts with Operations personel and other pilots.

MD-11F ops?

Post by Covert53 »

I've asked in the past but have not heard any chatter in a while. So, I'll ask again...with the presumptive imminent release of the PMDG MD-11 for FSX (and FS9 later), has management given any serious consideration to adding a MD-11F operation to the company? This is not a proposal...just a curious question.

It would get my vote...if I had a vote.

I think its a fine aircraft, but if I remember right, someone shot it down a couple of times when this came up before. I'm not sure though Rick.

This is a Polar/Atlas VA. I would assume that we wont be adding this A/C unless PO or 5Y start acquiring this A/C type. Keep your eyes here, though. You never know.

Thanks, Allen. I get that. After all, I was here before DHL came along, so I do know that expansion to the "Polar/Atlas" VA has been known to happen...

Just wishful thinking on my part.

Who, other than UPS and FedEx, is still using the MD-11 as a freighter in the real world?
Varig?
Lufthansa?
EVA?

Try World Airways, Martinair Cargo, Aeroflot, Saudi Airlines, Shanghai, China Eastern Cargo, and until recently Gemini just to name a few.
See here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/McDonnell_ ... D-11#Cargo. Even after you take away UPS and FDX, there is still a huge MD-11F presence in the cargo side of the house

Rick's opinion: World Airways is the Atlas Air of the MD-11F community. Its a dedicated cargo hauler that is not a part of a larger pax operation (like GEC or MPH); its an ACMI operation; it flies a ton of DoD military charters (yes, I know lots of pax flights for DoD); it also contracts out to other carriers for scheduled cargo runs (Air Canada, GEC). And it has a long 60-year history and is growing! For VA pilots, WOA is solid airline and is underrepresented in the VA world.

Again, just throwing it out there for thought and discussion. I have no sense on how management views the DHL expansion here at GCVA. If DHL is viewed as a success and worth repeating then there are worthy options out there. If not, then we move on...

Thanks for the info, Rick. World Air's operations look interesting. Looking at the Wiki page for the MD-11's, I was surprised to see so many still in operation.

Robert

I am confused by the request - Atlas Air, Polar & DHL dont have MD-11. Since we strive for realism i dont see us adding it. My vote is no

I believe the MD-11 will take its place in the GC fleet sometime in the future, like other quality add-on aircraft we operate. Now if only the real Atlas/DHL would buy a MD-11, that would speed things up here for sure :)
