New computer FSX compatible

New computer FSX compatible

Post by James1979 »

Gents,

Its time for a new box. If there are any of you that can run FSX with all the goodies turned on and have it run nice and smooth I'd love to see your system specs. Would you mind posting them?

Thx,

J

CRAY Supercomputer at $10,000,000.00 USD; you might be running sliders a little to the right of center.

Alright I'll throw some specs out there although I bought my current setup almost a year ago now. I'm not a VC flyer but did try it briefly with the 747X and it did stress the machine providing a less than fluid experience but in 2D, it rocks. Most of my sliders are maxed although I backed off on some items like water textures, aircraft shadows, etc to keep it smooth.

Asus Rampage Formula x48
3G QX9650 (mild OC to 3.4G)
4G Corsair Dominator DDR2-1066
EVGA 8800GT 512M
Vista Ult. x64
74G WD Raptor (System) and a 500G Seagate ST3500320AS (Games and Data)
24" LCD@1600x1024 and a 19" LCD@1280x1024

Mine runs it well with all the sliders over to the right except the weather settings. I do not own Active Sky X so I use Default weather downloads or none at all. I turn off the wx downloads when the winds start playing havoc with the aircraft. I am still trying to tweak weather settings now only with FSUIPC.
I am getting roughly 20 to 30 FPS.

You really wont notice any major differences with the scenery sliders all the way right as opposed to 60-75% of the way. Thats where I have them and its really not and different. I use ASX as well, getting a solid 30 FPS with or without VC (I dont use it really at all though):

-GA-P35-DS4 (rev. 2.1) MoBo
-Intel Q6700
-4GB Corsair XMS2 6400 RAM
-WinXP w/SP3
-FSX w/Acceleration

As far as the weather, it is a known fact that the worst plane as far as wind shifts go in FSX is the PMDG 744. No one knows why, but it seems that that particular plane amplifies wind shifts much worse with ASX. Hopefully, Hifisim's Active Sky Advanced (due out before XMAS) will deal with that issue better, although it is pretty much a weather dynamics issue within FSX, so it just may be something to deal with. Using a registered FSUIPC dramatically helps with the winds.

I have a registered version of FSUIPC and have not been able to get the winds under control much yet. I am still trying to mess with the wind settings in FSUIPC. Like I said I use the default download weather I believe from Jeppesen. Funny thing though I uncheck download of winds aloft and a short time later they switch back on without me touching them. Weird. Overall though I love the scenery in FSX and that's why I keep using it.
