"I reported an ""issue"" a month or so back in the RFP Support Forum about a problem I had with autoland (not always but frequently enough to be a problem). In summary I had everything set up ""flare"" comes on at 1500 feet, speeds nailed etc but the whale starts to flare too early as though trying to touch down on a ""virtual runway"" 50 or so feet above the ""real runway"" - if left alone she will stall as the nose keeps pitching up. Well this occured on my flight on 2004-11-17 at 14:35 from EBLG-EGPK - see the log for details. Do not look at the final touch down speed and descent rate - it just slammed in when I got the nose down and some power on. I would be interested tho' in any opinions from the pre-touchdown speeds, weights etc of what went wrong? Your evaluation would be really helpful. I know, I know autoland is for whimps - real men bring it in with a beer in one hand and the trolley dolly on one knee while listening to the Ride of the Valkyries with their eyes closed, and still manage a ""greaser"" every time - I can do this but need a rest occasionally <!--emo&;)--><!--endemo-->"

I'm still laughing! Oh my... well, what to say? I use the landing tables every time, you can get gross weight up on the fuel panel and that's all you need, really. Take the wind into account when determining your final approach speed and you can't miss, if you're not overweight for landing. I probably shouldn't say this (I hope Ralph never sees this!), but I managed to wreck right main landing gear twice on my landings so if you land in one piece, go grab that beer. And don't forget to remove the snakes from the 'pit. too. <!--emo&:P--><!--endemo--> I only did autoland once and it went well."

<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd--> Happened again on my latest flight from VABB (Mumbai) to VOMM (Chennai) - the reason I used autoland is that my joystick is out of use at the moment and there is NO way I can flare properly with the keyboard. Mind you when this happened again I am glad I had crash detect turned off - stalled onto the runway at 2000 fpm and 104 knts - nothing I could do about it I think it MAY (just MAY) be because I am coming in too slowly - I had a pre-flare speed of 157 knots with a Gross weight of 590,000 lbs and flaps 25. Anybody any ideas on this?"
