727 info for FSX please?

Post by John Khan »

Hi

I see the Captain Sim 727 is available for FSX, does anyone have it and is it any good?

I had the Dreamfleet 727 for FS9, which seemed far better than the other one that was available, maybe Captain Sim, - I can't remember. I thought the Dreamfleet was great and am waiting for the FSX version, but who knows how long that will be?

The last update on the Dreamfleet sight I can find is dated 26 Dec 2007!!

regards

I'm one of them. CS has a lot of eye candy, but little real functionality, and when they do, its full of bugs. Absolutely gawd awful. Stay away!

John,

I feel your pain. I had to give up on the 727 when I made the switch to FSX. If the route says "727" though, that is what you fly. We don't have an "equivalent" airplane in place. May I however suggest that you try the ATR - which I think is a great airplane to fly! :) Or the 757/767 if the ATR is too small. There are always a bunch of good DHL flights to pick from so enjoy!

Thanks Tomas

I have reinstalled the ATR for FSX and will have another go at it.

I have kept FS9 installed solely for the DF727 and RFP.

ATR is fun to fly, it's radically different from anything else in our fleet, nice change of pace. Hopefully the number of flights flown on it pick up.

Yup Justin, I know how you feel.

I have had FS9 on for years instead of FSX for the same two reasons, plus the Aeroworx B200, but the time has come.

The Digital Aviation Cheyenne is not far behind the B200 but there is nothing to compare with the RFP and the DF727.

The ATR is surely different I still cannot get it to work correctly - (that's me not the aircraft at fault) - even when I set it up to start with the pax ready to board and all the first checks and settings done. I have to go through the Tutorials again......

I've tried to like the CS727, but the more I fly it, the more bugs I find. For Example;

Trim - The 727 operates two electronic trim motors. A cruise trim motor, which provides a 1/4 trim rate of the main trim motor, and the main trim motor. The cruise trim motor is selected when the aircraft's trim is between 1.5 units nose up or nose down. Any deflections more than 1.5 units and the system reverts to the main trim motor. The Captain Sim bird doesn't model this, and the trim wheel operates too quickly making most approaches hectic.

Autopilot - I love flying raw data, but the CS plane makes it a burning headache. There are 4 identifier control stations on the real 727 (Captain's side, First Officer's side, Flight Engineer's side, and at the observers station). Only one identifier control station is functional on the Captain Sim plane and that is of the Flight Engineer's station. So, when you tune a new NAVAID, you have to switch to the Flight Engineer's station to identify it. The autopilot also loves to overcorrect, as the outboard aileron lockout system isn't modeled. You can have the CDI dead centered, and magnetic heading updated, but the aircraft will commence a 25 degree bank for no apparent reason, when you engage VOR LOC.

There are more bugs, like bus bar operation and fuel dump, but those are my two biggest ones.

With all the Bugs outlined above, how come Captain Sim is still in business ? :?

Be the first to model a specific aircraft for a certain platform and simmers will flock to it, no matter how wrong it is (unless the company happens to be Abacus).

I dont believe they are sunctioned yet - But HJG a/c are all made for FSX aswell

Once you get the model you want - scroll down to the Panels.
They have all the different models - Very Accurate - Just not as "Pretty"
