I recently updated by driver for my NVIDIA GeForce 8500GT and my frame rates tanked from 20's back to low teens and into the single digits. One thing I have noted the old driver said ForceWare 175.X and the new said Driver 190.xx, should I have looked for a ForceWare one or was that driver okay?
So a friend recommends I use the system restore feature (BTW first time doing this) and roll back to a time prior to this install. I did just that and my control panel for the video card does show the old video driver back in place. Frame rates though have yet to recover for FSX and now those pesky CTD's that were all but gone have returned.
Should I have done the restore or gave the driver some time, or should I re-install it and hope for the best??????? As I type one thing I have not checked yet is my FSX.cfg to make sure it is unchanged and am headed there now.
Thru all of this I am able to fly using FS9 which seems to be fine. Any advise???

Re: Question about Video Drivers
Video drivers and system restore arent really a good combo. First of all, when installing new nVidia drivers, be sure to uninstall the old ones first, and then restart your computer and install the new ones. If you dont like what you see (nVidia is notorious for having bad drivers for FSX), simply download an older set of drivers from www.guru3d.com or something similar, and follow the steps above to roll back. Ive heard that the 182.XX drivers are the best so far for FSX. I myself am using them.

Re: Question about Video Drivers
Thanks for the information. I went ahead and re-installed the latest one again, 190.something, from different site and my frame rates improved drastically. If and when I do this again I will follow what said about removing the old and the restarting and adding the new.
