Thanks Peter
I have a setup where I have the normal 'C' Drive with the usual stuff on, and another drive just for FSX and associated stuff such as GCP, Servinfo, V-Route, Active Sky etc.
This drive is a Raptor which, I'm told, is faster than the normal, but it is only 75 gigs and I have 48 gigs on it already with that stuff.
I tried putting them both on some time ago when FSX first came out, but had a lot if trouble as FSX seemed to take over everything including the registry entries, and whenever I tried to do anything with FS9, such as additions and updates, it went wierd.
I can't remember how much space FS9 takes up, can you give me an idea from your setup? It would have to include RFP, (I have the CD for that), Dreamfleet 727, Aeroworx B200, and a few others.
Maybe I could put FS9 on the origional C drive. but now I look at that it only has 29 gigs left out of 80.
I would suggest getting the FSX MD-11. I have it and I think it is fairly brilliant, even better than the 747s.

I believe the Flight1 website has a utility that will fix your registry if FSX wiped out the reference to FS9.

Yes I had to do that at the time, took one or the other off, and have never had them both on together since, but if I can....... This happened a while ago when FSX first came out, about 2006 or 2007 I think.
I might put in another Raptor hard drive just for FS9.

Re: New B727 Chief Pilot
John,
my set up is fairly simple, FSX on the C drive and FS9 on the D drive. Both drives are 500 GB, the C drive has all the other stuf like Vista so I'm not really happy with the performance of FSX. I started to use the D drive for flightsimming but for some rare reason I installed FSX on the C drive. When I un-install FSX now my FS9 registry will get mixed up. There has to be some fix for it I know, don't know if that is the fix where Michel is talking about.
Maybe an external hard drive is an option for me too. My FSX file is about 21 GB at the moment and I'm getting 10-15 FPS with PMDG B744 and LevelD B763 even with all kind of tweaks found at the net, so I'm not that happy with that at the moment. This could be because I have it installed at the C drive where all the other stuff is too. Standard FSX aircraft I'm getting 30 FPS, locked.
My FS9 file is 13 GB at the moment. A few sceneries and payware aircraft like the B744, B737, B773 en B763, Dreamfleet 727, Aeroworx B200, VRS F/A 18.

I think you're correct, your C drive is full of the normal stuff and that will not help the FPS in FSX. I have never had Vista, but I havn't heared much good about it.
My FSX runs very well with some sliders all the way to the right and I think it's because it has its' own drive. I might have to have a look at getting another drive installed, just a small Raptor and just for FS9. I have an external drive which I use for backups but I didn't think it would be fast enough for a flightsim? It is a Seagate something or other, about 500 gigs.
I might try to put FS9 on it and see how it goes. Trouble is I think I have run out of fast USB ports to attach it, I just use one of the ordinary ones at the front of the computer when I do a backup.

Re: New B727 Chief Pilot
After reading another topic about Vista on these forum I'm considiring switching over to W7 and an external drive of lets say 250 or 500 GB. Maybe that helps.
I'm out of USB ports too, I'm using the front USB port for my headset, that leaves one on the front for an external drive. No idea if that's fast enough.
