Trying FSX

Post by Anuj »

Hey Guys,

This is aimed at all those FSX users. I downloaded and tried the demo of FSX and I get about 60 FPS over open ocean and about 30 FPS at TNCM with Traffic cranked up to 100%. Aircraft was the default Baron 58. My FSX settings are as follows :

GRAPHICS :
Screen Res. : 1680x1050x32
Filtering : trilinear
Global Texture Resolution : Very High
Lens Flare : Checked
Light Bloom : Unchecked
Advanced Animations : Checked

AIRCRAFT :
Global Settings : Medium High

SCENERY :
Global Settings : High

WEATHER :
Global Settings : Medium High

So, Considering my system specs (in signature), with these results, is it time for me to move on to FSX ?

Thanks. :)

I would say yes :)

Your system seems to have a greater capacity than mine and it works okay (between 20 - 30 FPS PMDG744 and a lot of payware airports etc.). There are af cause a lot of different issues - especially all your (presumed) payware for FS9 - but... I, for one, haven't looked back :D

I find my Windows 7 setup with FSX the most stable I've been in years. Not a single CTD yet. PMDG products, ASA and either GC ACARS or my other VA's ACARS. With FS9 or FSX on my previous WIN XP setup I would CTD on almost any flight over 6 hours due to memory leaks or some other problem on my system. I'd definitly make the switch to FSX with the performance you indicated.

I don't see the point as my OS is 32 bit. It wont recognize more than 3GB.

When I moved from the Windows 7 beta program over to the full licensed product I made the switch from 32bit to 64bit and then maxed out my box with 4GB (yeah, it's that old) of RAM and performance and stabilitiy is even better than what I indicated above. To be able to fly long haul flights without worrying about CTD's (at least not yet) - hey that makes me a happy guy.

I don't think I see myself moving to Windows 7 until the end of this year. FSX is still damn expensive here. :(
