Some general questions not sure where else to put them

Post by jscharpf »

Should I switch from FSFK to the GC Pirep?

Thanks!

Jeff

You can use both as I do since two weeks. FSFK for your own flight logging and GCP for sending in your pirep or the other way around :D
At least I use FSFK for my private flight tracking so I have an logbook from all the flights I did on FS.

Hi Jeff

I would definitely recommend using GC Pirep. There have been some teething problems but it works great now and is very easy to use. It is set up by Justin, our CEO, who is a pilot in real life. The flight you select will have a lot of its' details already in GCP when you start it up.

The aircraft going back to their bases is not in the system as yet. Just select the aircraft specified in the flight selection page and don't worry where it is supposed to be. There will be a few continuing their flights from where they last got to, but not often as yet.

The PMDG 747s give enough trouble without setting up failures in them, I would suggest definitely not. You don't have to do anything with them unless you report a hard landing or something. Someone correct me if I'm wrong as I have never looked at these maintenance logs except when they appear in the Aircraft folder in the Forums.

I also use FS Commander to plan the flights

Hi Jeff,

Check out under Aircraft > Maintenance > Maintenance Instructions to find a pdf doc explaining what you must do to comply. The priority is to note if the aircraft that's been assigned has any MEL items listed (you will see this on the Aircraft Lists & Log Books page, 2nd column from the right for each tail number). You wold then consult the MEL book for that type of aircraft a look up the particular MEL item reported to find out what actions would need to be taken in order to complete the flight.
I hope this helps.

Keep in mind that you make the flying as real as you want. While most of us like the realism that mx and aircraft tracking brings to the airline, sometimes picking an ATR short-hop is equally fun and you just fly it from point A to point B without worrying about reports and paperwork! If you enjoy the added realism then go for it. Personally I use section 4 of our Pilot Manual to cure my occasional bouts of insomnia! (Ok Justin, feel free to fire me. I dare you!! )

Thanks for the replies!

Yes I think I will download the GCPirep and give it a shot!

One more question. If I select a flight from either the bid board or the free flights, do I need to commit to a date or can I fly it when I get a chance?

I don't want to be greedy but I can see reserving at least one flight per week.

Jeff

There have been cases of people selecting a flight and the sitting on it for days. The management brought in a rule that they must be flown within 48 hours. I think this applies mostly to the Titan flights as there are more aircraft available for them.

All flights from the bid board (Titan and Atlas) must be flown within 48 hours. There is a little bit more leeway with the Open Board ones. What we recommend is try to pick the flight on the day you are going to fly it or the night before if you're sure you're going to fly it the next day. If for any reasons you cannot fly it please drop a line to the Manager in charge.
