Yeah.....RFP was not written for FSX, and certainly would cause you many headaches.esurfman wrote:Had problems with the wheels going up when using the Reverse on the Saitek Throttles but I think I solved it. Re: BAW3574, 744 or 742?
I really enjoy flying the RFP since it does require so much more attention in the air, but my installation seems to be unusually fragile, and no amount of re-loading seems to cure the problems. It's almost as though I need to go through a very precise ritual, opening programs in their proper order, or I'll have no end of trouble. Usually the engines just shutdown somewhere mid flight or on the tarmac and will not relight. Since I don't think GCP saves INS information, I kind of resign myself to go back and start the flight over again. Yesterday, I started flying a single, eight hour flight at 9am local. By the time I was done, I had reloaded the flight no less than five times, only got off the ground three times, had two engine failures, two episodes where the INS would not fully align (only to 6/9 on the CIVA, very strange), and finally resigned myself to flying at compressed time (which I really resent ). On that flight everything came up perfect, I took off into the Nairobi dawn, only to realize I had forgot to begin logging GCP . Still, I can't pull myself away. After a short break, I'm back at the controls, entering figures, bringing the beast back to life. I finally landed in Moscow at midnight, having flown at breakneck speed, frantically trying to update the INS at 4X. And, to add insult to injury, I violated the 8X rule for a split second (too many key punches), for which I hope I won't be punished. (Luc, did you get the email? ) Yet, as we speak, I'm looking over the available flights for the 742. I must be mad.

Do you have the origional download version, the free version or the CD version??
The reason I ask is that I had some problems like yours, but a long time ago with the original download version, which I had reinstalled. I eventually bought the CD version from Just Flight and have never had a problem since. With this you get everything, all the liveries, most of which I don't use, and the loaders etc.
One thing I noticed was that having the furl heaters on seemed to shut down the engines after a while, this happened once on a group flight years ago with Luc and some others. This was way before the PMDG 744s came, out so the RFP was all we used.
Anyhoo I would suggest if you are keen to fly the wonderful thing to buy the CD version. If you already have it I would suggest a complete uninstall, make sure every file connected with it is taken iff, and reinstall.
Cheers

Re: BAW3574, 744 or 742?
Yes, John, the free version. I came to the RFP after PMDG. I'll have to keep the fuel heat possibility in mind, since I do pay attention to altitude, SAT and time during my flights. So it is possible that that is what happened while I was airborne. Then again, I've had the engines shut down during taxi and directly after takeoff while on climb out ( i think from Huntsville). I had no idea that there was a CD version for a price. Isn't that kind of unethical, considering Ralph released it for free? I completed another flight this afternoon, from UAAA to OOMS and had no problems. I just have to remember to open all the programs I wish to use during the flight before I load RFP. I do love flying the RFP, just an amazing aircraft .

That's strange.
I've got the D/L version and it's solid as a rock. I've done many mods to it too (LH-TCAS, INS HSI, even got one with the IGS SimAvionics) and all works fine.

I'm glad there is a CD version, as my old downloads didn't work any more, same as my PSS ones.
I didn't mind paying for it not too much and it comes with everything, have a look if you're interested.
