Bidding order
Hi ,
I am just looking at the bid flight page and have noticed something i have never noticed before
It seems that i am not able to bid for a flight until 7 hours or so ,which is fine,,but i also noticed that there is first officers that have already bid for there flights,in fact there is first officers that have been here a lot less time than i have and with a lot less hours (probably offline too) but yet they can bid before me,
From what i can see i am not allowed to bid until the same time as pilot 2654 who has 29hours and only been here a few months (absolutely nothing to do with the pilot mentioned off course just picking an example)
in fact there is only about 11 FO that have been here longer than me so how come theres around 59 FO who can bid before me?????
In fact Jason GTI2500 has been able to bid since hours now but yet he joined months if not years after me(sorry Jason hope you dont mind me using you as another example)
How is that supposed to work??? makes absolutley no sense to me an from now on i will not be bidding for any flights nor flying my autobids either until it gets sorted (although i think i have missed most of my bid flights since months anyway)
as far as i can see it would be more benificial for me to stay as an FO if i wanted to get higher up the bidding order rather than going down to the bottom of the list as a captain
Sorry for the rant but the system makes absolutely no sense to me in how it is working and needs fixed to be fairer
Regards Terry

Re: Bidding order
Getting a little worked up there Terry lol Have no fear, it's not what it seems on on the surface.
The way the bid system works is that our entire Polar schedule is copied to two databases, both exactly the same. One database is for FO's bidding and the other for CA's bidding. While it may seem on the surface that you are competing against both FO's and CA's for the same flights, the two ranks are actually separated so that a FO and a CA can bid for the exact same flight on the same day. Why? In the real world you need an FO and CA on the same airplane doing the same flight, right?
The bidding window opens for CA and FO's at the same time and trickles down in order of seniority. Since there are about double the FO's than CA's here, the next FO's window is opened at a higher rate than it is for CA's. All pilot's bid windows are opened on the 20th and all bidding closes on the 22nd giving the last pilot's bid window a minimum of 2 days to get their bid in.
The bid system is modelled after real world operations.
Again, you as a CA are competing only against other CA's for flights to bid on since FO's are picking from a physically different (but identicle) flights database.
Now have a cold one on me lol

Re: Bidding order
Yeh a slight over reaction maybe, Seems i got the totally wrong end of the stick there
Just started a new job this week so must be more stressed than i realised, first post sounds harsh now i read it again after sitting down
Now that you mention it i do remember that there is 2 databases my mistake
Thanks for pointing me in the right direction Justin
Although in theory the more senior FO still gets the pick of better flights than me,even though my virtual paypacket should be bigger, just as in real world i suppose...
Off to hide in a corner now, with a very cold one ,Cheers Justin
Regards Terry

Re: Bidding order
Not a problem Terry, I had to laugh when I read your first post because normally you are quite playful in your posts so I had to be playful in my response knowing that your reaction would probably be exactly as it was lol. So, to see you up in arms in a post is unusual so I had to have fun with it lol.
Yes, your virtual paycheck is larger than an FO's doing the same flight lol.

Re: Bidding order
I think maybe we are starting to get too realistic because you are starting to act like a real airline pilot Terry lol

Re: Bidding order
And now you sound like a member of ALPA, forget that it would bankrupt the place in a year and you'd be out of a job, but who cares about something that far into the future?? lolraa57 wrote:yep your right justin,nwadc10 wrote:I think maybe we are starting to get too realistic because you are starting to act like a real airline pilot Terry lol

Re: Bidding order
Never noticed it myself, and regardless it seems there's tons of the same flights anyway.
