Windows 10

Post by nwadc10 »

Windows 10 is out and I found a way to install it now rather than wait for it to automatically install which could be a few weeks in some cases. Search for and download Windows 10 Media Creation Tool. This tool will jump you to the front of the line for downloading and installing Windows 10. I have just completed the installation of Windows 10 with this method.

I haven't tried FSX/P3D yet to see if there's a noticeable improvement in performance. I'll post back when I have a chance to do that.

Note that after upgrading, programs such as GCP that need to be run as administrator must be set again to run as admin because that setting becomes unchecked in the upgrade. The process to set run as admin is the same as at least Windows 7.

Is Win10 an automatic upgrade for Win8 only or does it include Win7 ?

I've wouldn't say I've noticed a real increase in performance in game, but I have noticed a few things like Prepar3d boots up much faster, even with AI traffic installed (that always slowed it down for some reason) But by far the biggest thing I've noticed related to P3D is with Windows 8.1 the joysticks disappeared from the menu after a couple of minutes and to program anything with them you had to either exit the game, or buy FSUIPC. With FSX they sometimes stopped working at all. Very happy to see that fixed.

Now as for improvements in general over the debacle that was windows 8 and 8.1, thats a whole different animal

I read on Cnet about a "bug" in the Windows Upgrading which is now completely Automatic without the choice to install or not install upgrades, and this is causing some PCs to "hang" as it were in this upgrading as once it fails it goes back to starting the upgrade again and so on and so on, anyone having this problem?

When my wife was upgrading her laptop it hung a few times. Rather infuriating since I was an early "insider" for Windows 10 and I kept telling her how awesome it was. But finally after a few tries and hours it upgraded.

I upgraded 3 computers at the same time. I didn't wait for the automatic notification, I upgraded using the method I described above. Only 1 computer had an issue, and error came up, and I restarted the upgrade and everything was fine from there.

Justin,

Any issues regarding FS9/FSX or does it all work fine?

I only did a short test in P3D. I'll check FSX and FS9 if I still have it installed soon for you.

Peter, just done a couple of Flights and having a couple of problems with the settings with FSUIPC in FS9 which I didn't have before, in one the Reversers stopped working luckily it was a long Runway and the second one the Throttles where unresponsive on Landing, so I,m re-installing FSUIPC to see if I can cure it, another thing, Win 10 automatically upgrades everything, now I use Nvidia GeForce and it was upgraded, then FS9 wouldn't load until I rolled back the Driver, so if you get any bugs, check for any recent upgrades that could be causing the problem, It upgrades with no notification that it has done so, apart from that everything is fine.lol

Thanks for the feedback Mike. I'm a little afraid to update to Win10 because of the trouble people have after upgrading.
I'll wait for a little bit more.

Hi Folks,
I have talked to several people about upgrading to Win10.
Seems that one needs to do a complete reinstall of Win7, then the upgrade. Reason,, is if your Win7 has not been re-installed recently, you could have corrupted files, and not even know it.
I'll am upgrading my spare computer, newer MB, etc. I will install Win10 from an OEM disc.
I am in no hurry to upgrade my flight simming machine, as it is running perfect, using P3d.
I normally make a complete reinstall about once a year, or, if, I start having troubles. Very easy to get corrupted files.
Don't expect any performance increase with your sim., but a better OS, with more security.
