voxATC

Here is where the coffee machine and Coke machine are kept. Please clean up after yourself and do not remove the magazines from this area. A good place to exchange thoughts with Operations personel and other pilots.

"Hello all! Although this program has been out for awhile, I just happened to stumble upon it 4 days ago. All I can say is WOW! If you have been looking for an ATC addon that reponds to your ""voice"" instead of ""key presses"", than head on over to voxATC and check things out. You can DL the demo and give it ago. I played with it for two days and was convinced. I bought it today and added two voice sets from AT&T. You can also visit AVSIM and look for the ""Unofficial voxATC"" forum. You can get answers to some of your questions there. Since I have it installed and working, I don't mind answering some of your questions here... if that is OK with Ralph!?! Anyway, please do yourselves a favour and try the demo at least. Disclaimer: I do not work for, nor have I recieved any compensation from the developers of the product mentioned above. I simply think it is GREAT, and wanted to share it with you all. Later!"

"Thank you Ralph. Here are some questions I have had answered. 1) Does voxATC interact with FS defaut traffic or 3rd party traffic generators (i.e FSTraffic)? No... it generates it's own traffic. You can hear them but you can't see them. You can turn FS traffic on if you wish, but it will run independant of voxATC. 2) How do I purchase voxATC? Option 1) DL the demo from the voxATC site. You can then purchase a registration from the same site. The demo comes with 3 voices that are ""robot"" like in the way they sound. You can purchase better sounding voices from various venders. I bought Crystal and Mike voices from AT&T ""Natural Voices"". They sound VERY human and come in 16 and 8 bit versions. There are other voices as well but voxATC only usees ""one"" voice which it manipulates to make it sound like several. Option 2) You can purchase a hard copy of voxATC from PCAviator online. This package includes the two AT&T natural voices I mentioned above. There are other venders as well... just do a google search on voxATC. 3) How do I get support? E-mail from the site and from the AVSIM forum... and from me! 4) Is this program still being developed? Yes! Paul Carter, the developer, has told me via email that version 3 will be released later this year. I asked if I could be a beta tester for that version and he said he would let me know when it is ready for testing. The current version is 2.71. 5) There appears to be a lot I have to do to get things setup. Is that true? That depends on the individual. It takes about 5 to 10 minutes to train the voice recognition engine to recognize your voice. After that, you spend about 3 minutes per flight. I don't think that is a lot of time. You may! As a side note, you do not have to pronounce the words to suite the system. If you have an accent for instance, than the system will be trained by YOUR voice with that accent. So when ATC talks to you, you must respond the way YOU talk... which is a GOOD thing! 6) Are there any reviews by professional pilots that will help me to get their opinion? Yes... go to the review section at AVSIM. Click on the Misc. section and scroll down a ways. You will see a link labeled voxATC. The reviewer (Zane) also frequents the voxATC forum found at AVSIM. END of Questions. If you need more info, let me know!"

"Ok, I saw this too on Computer Sim magazine, my question is if you turn off your AI traffic on FS 2004, will you still be able to see other traffic? I liked the sounds of the program, but don't want to get too much running at once so to speak, ie AI FS traffic, and the Vox traffic too. I guess you could turn down your FS traffic to a minimum and still get the vox stuff too. Just wondering.... Glad you brought up the topic of this though, I was hammering the idea of asking someone on the forum here about it since it sounded so neat."

"Hi Bryan! As mentioned above, you will hear voxATC traffic but you won't see any. In other words, the voxATC controllers will interact with voxATC traffic as you fly, but it does not create AI traffic. You could say the the traffic is virtually virtual. "
