ATC Add Ons

"Ok, I am really kind of tired of the limitations of the generic FS9 ATC. I am wanting to find out from those of you who have bought different add-ons what seems to be the best product out there? I would love to have something that will accept the flight plan as input into FS9. ie, when I put in SIDS and STARS inevitebly FS9 will turn me a hundred different directions off my intended flight path before lining me up and if I don't turn as you know I get booted off my IFR plan. All in all, just looking for more realism just like most of us are. Any suggestions? And if you have experienced any problems with a certain product that I might want to steer clear of, let me know please. Thank you very much!"

It was developed by air traffic controllers. It's a must-have if you want realism. There is a steep learning curve, but so does the RFP2. <a href='http://www.jdtllc.com/' target='_blank'>http://www.jdtllc.com/</a>"

"Bryan, from what I've seen and heard (and it's only my opinion) Radar Contact 4 as a big computer voice (go on the site and check the demo to see if you like it) plus it does not take the AI trafic into account. There is also VoxATC that looks a little better (again from the demo on the site)."

The new v4 does take AI into account and it will even speed up AI traffic in front of you and slow down AI traffic behind you when you're on final to get them out of the way. You can listen to AI chatter within RC4 and it will match the surrounding AI. I had TCAS warn me of traffic yesterday and RC4 jumped in and notified me of the other plane and also notified the AI of my presence. It's much better than v3. As for the voices, they have just uploaded more voice sets on their website. It is true that v3 voices were too robotic but I don't feel that way about v4 anymore. My only complaint is that the ATC seems to have a US/UK/Australian accent but that may change as they add more voice sets for different parts of the world. Otherwise it's a great add-on. You'll love it. (Can't say anything about VoxATC since I don't have it)"

"Bryan, Flying online is about as good as it gets if you want to go that route. Pilot voices, accents (and language) of the area you are flying in, well that's standard equipment. And best of all the software is free! You will have to invest in a $20 headset for realism. Voice communications are the norm now. I have been doing it for 10 yrs now... and almost every flight is done online with VATSIM. IVAO is another network that is very popular. My 2cents worth. "

"For what it,s worth,d/loaded the Vox ATC,found the Voice a bit too Robotic and had to repeat myself too many times , but that could be my Northern England Accent, been reading up on Radar Contact 4 and it looks very appealing insofar as it will let you fly to the alternate and also direct you to whichever Ramp or gate you specify, short of the real thing sounds just the ticket ! Safe landings , Mike"
"Well, I went ahead and ordered the version 4 of Radar Contact. It seems that they have indeed done some improvement. I do want to get online sometime and try that, but I definitely need to get my CIVA usage down pat, and a few other things such as the real world proceedures which by the way, RC version 4 boasts that they can bring you up to speed. I have not flown real world in ages and they have made some really big changes since I got my last clearance delievery! LOL Listened to both demos, and of course they seem both to be robotic in sound, but then again, I don't think we can expect too much there, but I did notice on one of them, (don't remember which) seemed that there was alot of repeating the same thing... Yuk! Guess I will give it a once over when Radar Contact arrives, I will let you know. I sure hope it's worth the $$$$ I am just so tired of the FS9 ATC."

"Got Radar Contact and wow, what a learning curve!!! But its a welcomed challenge indeed! The only thing I am not sure of yet is it doesn't tell me where to taxi to when I land! LOL, I guess I have got spoiled by the magenta line! LOL, in a way its freedom to taxi to the proper place in the cargo area. So far I love it but have lots to learn! I would recommend it already to anyone. Very realistic."

<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd--> You can specify the departure and arrival gates in RC4 when you set up your flight (before you connect it with FS). There is no magenta line for taxying but the RC4 forum on Avsim discusses this. The easiest is to have RC4 on Comm1 and FS9ATC on comm2. You don't really use FS9ATC at all, except for taxying out and taxying in, just to get the magenta line. Don't file a flight plan with FS9! Just request taxi to the runway upon departure. When you are on approach at your destination, just contact FS9ATC on comm2 and request a full stop landing, then it will tell you to taxi to the gate and you'll get a magenta line. Make sure you do the tutorial flights. The forum on Avsim is excellent. After all, they are real life controllers and very big on realism. By the way, I watched ""Pushing Tin"" again last night, with John Cusack and Billy Bob Thornton as NY TRACON controllers. <!--emo&:)--><!--endemo--> Looking forward to your feedback."

I have been trying to use the overall map to just get an idea of where to taxi to, but man, if you make a wrong turn!!! <!--emo&--><!--endemo--> So just keep FS9ATC on comm2 for the magenta line in and out. That sounds good. Yeah, I love that movie Pushing Tin, its a great one. About time for me to watch it again myself. Its been a while. Appreciate the heads up on the Taxi instructions, I would love to have a ground map for everywhere I fly, but its just not available to all locations, so having that little line sure helps... I'm loving the program, (RCV4) its really nice, I have been practicing with it, I have a flight due to go on the 13th I think, so I want to have RC down a bit better for the flight. Hey Brog, you will like the program I think.. It definitely will take time to settle in with you but its exciting seeing all the options we have never had on FS9ATC. Let me know how ya like it."

ok Bryan Just finished the 1st Tutorial using the generic fs 737, didn,t want too much work while I was getting used to rc 4, one slight niggle, the voices are too slow, is there any way of speeding them up ,as we can do for instance in fs9 with Edit Voicepack, apart from that I like it ,still got a helluva lot of reading to do, what I did like also was the Bollocking it gave me when I contacted Ground before clearing the Runway completely! <!--emo&--><!--endemo--> Safe Landings , Mike <!--emo&:D--><!--endemo--> <!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd--> "
"Make sure you visit the RC4 forum on Avsim often. They are helpful and very high on realism (being real life controllers). Two good tips to know: - use comm2 for FS9ATC (in VFR) to get the magenta line at both airports - assign a hotkey with FSUIPC to show/hide the ADVdisplay window Also, they recently added more voicepacks to download. The links are on the forum. By the way, I don't use the magenta line myself since I have Jeppesen SimCharts with the airport diagrams. "

I have been considering those since I just took the scenic tour of PANC before parking last night, LOL, go onto the company site and check out my taxi map!!! I feel like a dope! Was looking for a certain spot, it was like an old lady driving around at the shopping mall looking for a good parking place, LOL. By the way.. I used the flight dispatch on Globe cargo, downloaded the flightplan(where it says click here to download), then reloaded it into FS9, my radar contact went nuts, and put me up in the air and dropped me like a rock, so I had to reset the flight and just load up a simple FS9 flight plan. You have any ideas on that one? I did notice that in the flight plan box on RCV4, it was not really readable, after loading up. That is why I just fell back on a FS9 flight plan. Thanks!"
