Luc <!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd--> Luc, It depends on what add-ons you also use while flying, I have 1gig of RAM but as well as the PMDG 744 I am running FDC Live Cockpit, Real sky, Auto Camera, FSFK,and on short haul Radar Contact 4, also Real world weather and Live Acars "" I,m surprised it runs at all"" anyway when you switch views or the flying mode the programme freezes temporarily, only for a couple of seconds but then continues, it is most noticeable during the Descent and Approach Phase when you,re constantly having to adjust, so I,m afraid I.ll have to dig in the old Pocket again, Safe landings , Mike <!--emo&--><!--endemo-->"

"Thanks Mike! It is not so much the cost of a new computer that bothers me, mine is 3 years old and I have been preparing myself to replace it. My real worry is to reinstall all the programmes, the patches etc. A real nightmare for the basic button pusher that I am... I heard that it was possible to copy an old hard disk to a new one without having to go through all the programme reinstallations but is it really wise and good for the new machine? Your system looks really great, enjoy! Luc"

<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd--> It is quite possible but *BEWARE* there are two main issues:- 1. The registry is a file on your system disk that holds all the settings and parameters for your system and the installed programs. If you copy an old system disk to overwrite the new one then it will overwrite the registry as well - if there are settings in there that are required by your new machine (but not your old) then you will have problems. Also there are lots of other files on your new system disk that will be deleted and/or replaced if you overcopy - this will again cause you major problems. It is also a non-starter if the operating system on your old machine and the new machine are different. <!--emo&--><!--endemo--> 2. If you are not copying the system disk but another hard disk then the registry (on your new system disk) will not contain all the settings for any programs on the disk you are copying, so it is unlikely that they will run properly (or even run at all). <!--emo&--><!--endemo--> If you can get the new system and old system networked then life is a lot easier as you can selectively copy files from old to new (e.g. installation files, emails etc) over the network. The safest way is to resinstall all software, patches, updates etc. onto the new machine from the original disks. If any of the software was downloaded make sure you copy the installation files onto a CD or DVD so you can install on the new machine (if they are not networked). Also make sure you have got *ALL* the security codes and installation keys for software before you start. Long winded but with a bit of planning it shouldn't be too painful (he said hopefully)."
