i was wondering if someone could explain the procedure for promotion to me...it seems we have a few new captains in the asia region that have been promoted when they have filed one pirep with the company back in March...i'm missing something here aren't i?...especially when there are more senior pilots in the company...not trying to argue here..just confused... BTW congrats Ed on your Promotion and 500 hours...you've worked hard for it

As of current, we keep an equal amount of F/O's and Captains. Generally it's based on seniority but in certain circumstances someone of less seniority may be promoted to captain before a more senior pilot. That decision is left to the RM's. There's an idea in the works that would make the promotion much more realistic but that's still quite a long ways from being implemented. The AA region has gained many pilots recently so some of the newest captains have very few hours. When promoting rank, each region is seperate so AA pilots looked at against only other AA pilots for promotion in rank. So, a 5 hr pilot in AA may have just been promoted to captain while a 200 hr pilot in NSA or EM is still F/O. Justin"

"The obvious, realistic, and fair approach would be to offer the most senior and ""current"" pilots the opportunity to become Captains if they agree to transfer to the region with open positions. Then you'd have to have a bid system in place for a captain region bid system as well. Quite realistic as well. Until a more equitable solution is put in place, how about transfering over to the AA region where your promotion would be imminent ? AA FO Dave Colavecchio #1421"

Captain upgrades don't come automatically, a pilot must ask, or bid, for it. From there the pilot goes to training, etc. I won't go into more detail at this time but it should suffice to say that this issue has already been considered and remains on the to-do list. Justin"

"Mike, your captain promotion would come quicker if there was some way to get the new pilots to fly and stick around for a while. If you watch the roster every month, i notice a lot of guys sign up, but few even get a few hrs in. They must not have ""the right stuff"" ed mosier 1287"

i quite agree Ed...but my intention was never in regards to myself i really don't care if i remain an FO forever..i love flying for Globe just the same...but if we are going to have a system of promotions i wanted to see a fair one which takes in account a pilots dedication to Globe as well as their company seniority and as you may have noticed Justin's new post in the notam's section i think he and globe Management have hit the proverbial nail on the head"
