Flight Prep Procedures
Moderators: Staff, HR, Flight Ops
"O.k. guys. I was hesitant to post this document that I use for my own flight preparations because it's probably lacking quite a bit of info and I know it's not perfect. Kind of afraid of what you guys think of it really. BUT, this prompt sheet works for me and it basically steps me through the many steps of flight preparation. I wrote this because it seemed that I was always forgetting something when it came to flight preps. This makes it go a lot smoother for me at least. Try it if you want and let me know what you think. Until the official flight preparation documents come out you guys can use this because I know whatever is officially posted for flight prep./planning docs. is going to be way better than this. This was not meant to replace this in any fashion and I don't mean to diminish what the preparers of those docs. are working on. I just thought you would get some use out of this also. Anyways, for what it's worth, here it is. Edit it and change it to your hearts content to make it work for you. Mark"

It's a very nice and useful contribution for all of us. I'm sure a lot of us will use it in our flights since this moment. Thank you again!! I know it's not perfect though Jose so do what you want with it to suit your needs. Glad you like it. "
"Hi Mark: An old man used to say me: ""There is no perfect things in the life, only the intention of make things better and better everyday is perfect"" (sorry for the bad translation, but I think you can understand it). Your work is useful, and your intention has been perfect. And the most important thing for me: you have shared with us <!--emo&:D--><!--endemo--> <!--emo&:D--><!--endemo--> Thanks again, and again, and again... <!--emo&:)--><!--endemo-->"

"Mark, don't worry. The forum is a bit ""died"" in the last days, I don't know if all our pilots are sleeping, or flying, or in vacation time <!--emo&:D--><!--endemo--> <!--emo&:D--><!--endemo--> I use your doc in my last two flights in February, so I think that it's useful. But I'm agree with you in one thing. You have taken some of your free time writting this doc, and you have shared it to us. I think that we must download it, and read it. It will be a good way to say you ""thanks"". I understand you <!--emo&:(--><!--endemo-->"

"Hi Mark, I 've just had a look at your doc. Very good work, everything is detailed, wow, from beginning to the end ! It may be useful for people whose not too familiar with the aircraft, <!--emo&^_^--><!--endemo--> but for all veterans that we are...... <!--emo&:D--><!--endemo--> Just joking ! evrybody is learning every time. And me first ! I did my first 100% free error flight with and excellent landing rating, a few days ago with the Whale ! <!--emo&--><!--endemo--> I've noticed one thing in your doc on page 3 : <!--QuoteBegin--><div class='quotetop'>QUOTE</div><div class='quotemain'><!--QuoteEBegin-->o Select TOD and push EPR button on radio panel o Push EPR pre-select button at bottom of engine inst. gauge o Select auto throttle ?on? <!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd--> I used to do those tasks in that order until last month, and I always had problem when climbing in IAS mode above FL100 (EPRL calculated was about 1.50, and the FFRATS set only 1.42 for the EPR with athr on). Then after reading and reading and reading, the manuals and the FAQ on the RFP site, I decided to invert the last two tasks : * Select TOD and push EPR button on radio panel ** Select auto throttle ?on? *** Push EPR pre-select button at bottom of engine inst. gauge Now it's perfect, when climbing in IAS, the EPR set by computer matches exactly the EPRL calculated ! Hope that it will help someone else ! Thanks for reading Rgds / Stéphane "
"Mark, I like your document a lot. Here's one I put this together over a 3-year period. I collected everything I need and put it in a single document for simplicity. Looks like we're both after the same thing. [attachmentid=543] I know it's not perfect, but ..."

This is fantastic work Michel! Much better than mine, that's for sure. I would recommend all our pilots use this (or my document, which is nowhere near as complete as yours) for their flight preps. Thanks for sharing this Michel. Again, great work. Mark"

"Mark, Michel, I stumbled across your documents whilst searching for something else on the Forum. Thank you for taking the time to produce two excellent aide memoires. They will have a place in my cockpit from now on Might I suggest that they are moved somewhere more accessible to help other new pilots like myself find them more easily?"
