FSX Install and SP Problems

Here is where the coffee machine and Coke machine are kept. Please clean up after yourself and do not remove the magazines from this area. A good place to exchange thoughts with Operations personel and other pilots.

FSX Install and SP Problems

Post by 1691 »

Maybe I can get some help here as MS was not too helpful. Ive been spending the bulk of my time the last few days upgrading to Vista Ultimate after a mobo and HDD upgrade. After the uphill battle to get Vista in I finally got it operational. FSX was another uphill battle because apparently my DVD drive is too old for Vista, and so I had to download the DVDs to my desktop and copy the .CAB files it wasnt able to read to the HDD from my DVD. Anyhow, now I try and install SP1 and it keeps claiming the file is corrupt. FSX reinstall and redownloaded SP1 5 times, no help. Any ideas?

I assume you mean to upgrade the firmware of my DVD drives? If so Ill have to go buy a new one. Both my old ones are too old, and the firmware updates are no longer supported.

OK, so heres the update. I finally broke down and called MS and they led me around in circles asking for serial numbers and what not. After all that hoopla, the MS Games specialist told me that MS recommends not installing SP2 and instead to purchase the FS Acceleration pack in order to have a successful install of SP1. Well after laughing and telling the gentleman that wasnt going to happen, I hung up and called my wife, explaining to her how I was going to merge this into my computer. As Im talking to her Im half unconsciously just clicking on the update .exe, kind of making a song out of the warning sound that plays when the "corrupt" message comes up, and all of the sudden, on the last click it worked. LOL...you cant write this stuff. Now I gotta get my airplanes installed...joy.[/img]
