Donation to GCVA

Here is where the coffee machine and Coke machine are kept. Please clean up after yourself and do not remove the magazines from this area. A good place to exchange thoughts with Operations personel and other pilots.

Donation to GCVA

Post by peter »

I have really enjoyed the airline - It has cost me nothing - Does Globe Cargo Virtual accept donations? Are there projects that we would like but need support?

Costing you nothing? What about the $60 you invest in the PMDG before you can even think of joining? :D

You know, even though you do have to buy the product to get in the VA, its SO worth it. ( I almost get the feeling we're in an exclusive club, not only because of the product we fly, but because Globe pilots are seen as very well trained, and well versed in their aircraft and flying in general)

Okay, now that everyone is feeling warm and fuzzy inside, go out and continue to build our reputation.

The problem with money donations is that , now the va could be considered a for profit comercial buisness, and face tax issues along with all the other things that businesses go through just to exist.
Books would have to be kept to prove that the va is a non profit organization.

The va could be shut down by the airlines we virtually fly for , as they could see it as making money on their name and logo... not a good thing.

another problem with donations, is that someone giving money, now considers that they should have a say in how the va is run. This is a big reason why vatsim does not accept money donations.

The best thing to do if you want to donate something, is to donate your time in some capacity.
THere are projects always on the go, perhaps Justin can advise in this area....

The only thing that actually carries a cost around here is the hosting service for the web site. As of today, we are still good for another 518 days. :)

As Ed said, donating your time to the operation of the VA is probably the best thing to do. I know a lot of us are busy and it is easier to donate the occasional $$ - I sometimes do both. I am sure Justin has a bunch of projects on the go that he wouldn't mind some help with!

Perhaps you could post the projects on the website somewhere, so those who wish to donate time and talent, could do so. Just note whatever skills are required to do the project. Might take some of the load off you guys. 8)

We could probably do that. And thanks to those who are willing to donate, we appreciate the gesture but as others have said we'd rather keep the operation simple and not get into legal issues.

I'm not an expert whatsoever with legal things and taxes (there's a reason I keep things simple so I can do the EZ form for taxes :) ) but our server for TeamSpeak has a program for members to donate towards the bill for the server. The donations go directly to the host and can be used only for an upgrade to our service or to pay existing or future charges to our account. The donations never touch anyone's hands and is essentially a pre-payment of the charges. Details on this program are in our TeamSpeak forum and is stickied to the top of the forum.
