Titan & Monthly Bids
Has there been any consideration towards allowing us to bid Titan flights in our monthly bids?
I can't speak for anyone other than myself, but most times I am only able to fly 1x flight per month and would thoroughly enjoy stretching the legs of the B767 or MD-11 on some of the Titan legs. As well, I would enjoy the added flexibility of having additional short/medium haul flight selections, as I don't have the time to sit at the PC and do 10+ hour flights; which severely reduces the flight choices available to me during the bidding cycles for only Atlas and Polar. Additionally to that point, it would also be good to consider allowing us to skip the mandatory Monthly Bids and instead allowing us to pick up an Open Board flight, in which would satisfy our minimum monthly flight requirement and allow us to select flights that are non-standardized on a monthly basis.

Re: Titan & Monthly Bids
Hi Greg
Not to be rude but I'm sure you knew that Globe was a long haul airline? You say you can only do 1 flight a month that's ok as your maintaining your active state and the manual says you have to do at least 1 flight per month.
The other thing that you can do is when you do your bid flight you can always start it off then go off and do what you have to do but make sure you set your STAR into your FMC so the aircraft will pause if your not back in time . Or even do the flight when your asleep, I have done that sometimes.
Though I'm sure you can find sometime spare to do a long haul flight!!!!!, we all have real world commitments and manage to do the odd one just set some time aside.

Re: Titan & Monthly Bids
Jason,
Certainly no offense. I asked that very questions (availability of short-haul flights) on this forum before I joined. I'd bring up the point that there are many short to medium haul flights available on the Open Board. However, that is not the case on the Monthly Bid Form, and being only to mainly do 1x flight per month; the Monthly Bid Flight is really the only flight I am able to do. Yes, there are times when I'm able to do more than 1x and I enjoy picking the Open Board Flights. I think the main issue is that the Monthly Bid Flights virtually never change, and most of them are long haul; and that is where it becomes very limiting.
I mainly don't do long hauls because I personally don't see the point of starting a flight to go to sleep or go out for a couple of hours and come back to my PC. I am active at my PC when I do my flights, as I enjoy it that way.

I really don't think that is the way to do a flight here. You are not expected to sit at the computer for 9 hours or whatever, but you are expected to be around and keep an eye on things, and definitely not sleeping. I presume you are not flying online?
Yes, we all have real world commitments and that is why there are no strict rules for these flights, but to start them and then go off to bed is not the way to do them.

What you ask is a valid point and I'm sure there are some who would like to bid on the shorter flights. I'll let the management answer that one.

The Open Board flights and the monthly bid flights are identical! The Open Board flights are left-overs from the scheduled flights that no one picked!E6BAV8R wrote: I'd bring up the point that there are many short to medium haul flights available on the Open Board. The Titan flights are more of a diversion so that you can pick high-quality cargo add-ons and fly them on routes that real-world Polar doesn't fly. But this VA is first and foremost about simulating the real-world ops of the Polar division and will remain so. If you really don't like the long-hauls then there are plenty of scheduled flights on the bid form that are under two hours. Just a quick search showed me QFA7552 KORD to KTOL which is 1:15 hours in length. This of course begs the question why you signed up to fly the 747 in the first place!
Re: Titan & Monthly Bids
Hahaha, yeah, I don't think I could do that. I'd be way too paranoid that something awful is happening while I was asleep.

Re: Titan & Monthly Bids
Hi greg,
Also there is plenty of charters that are of reasonably short length for the 747 in the atlas page,
at the moment theres this
KDFW-MGGT 1155NM
KCVG-KLAS 1453NM
KSZL-KCHS 743NM
RGGG-VHHH 1416NM
KMIA-SKBO 1314NM
all around 2-5 hour mark
and the nice thing i find about the charters is not knowing where your next destination is going to be (unless you read the projected flight schedule for that charter ).
also once you work your way up the roster you get an earlier pick at the bid flights so even more short flights to choose from
also be nice to see more pilots online, short or long haul
regards terry

Re: Titan & Monthly Bids
Yes Terry, but those are the Open Board Flights; not necessarily the ones on the Monthly Bid Form. But I see where you are going and I completely agree with you. The progressive flight schedules are great.raa57 wrote:Hi greg,

While they may be identical to the Monthly Bid Form, the Open Board Flights mostly progress down a flight schedule; which is what Terry alludes to and is enjoyable because you get to fly more than a generic route on a standardized basis (monthly). The Open Board flights and the monthly bid flights are identical! The Open Board flights are left-overs from the scheduled flights that no one picked!
I do love flying the 747 and is obviously designed for long-haul, but I was told by multiple people that portrayed to me that there are plenty available short to medium haul flights, as well as the ability to fly other aircraft types outside of the 747. While that is true and there are numerous amounts, they are all standardized on a monthly basis. Being, eventually I will be flying the same routes over and over again; hence my suggestion of adding Titan to the Monthly Bid Form or continuing the projected flight schedules under the Atlas Open Board Flights. This of course begs the question why you signed up to fly the 747 in the first place!
I don't want to make it seem like I am complaining, as I obviously voluntarily joined and continue to fly with GCVA because I really enjoy it. I am only offering a suggestion that I thought others might appreciate the additional choice offerings as well. If that is not the case than simply ignore it!

Re: Titan & Monthly Bids
FYI, the purpose of Globe was to mirror the real life operations of Polar and Atlas with the 747. Titan was later added to add a little bit of variety. Any real pilot at Polar/Atlas would find the same routes to bid on.

hi greg ,
nope all that flights i listed were ATLAS charters from the atlas page, not open board flights
and also i think a lot of the charters do go round in a loop as i have come across a few broken links already that darrell kindly fixed,so once you finish one loop you can jump onto another airframe and start a new rotation
also about the charter destinations is the fact that default FS seems to be missing the ILS for some of the less well known airports/AFB or maybe they dont have an ILS in realworld so makes for an exciting app if ATC are online.

Well if you look at my stats via vataware for Globe then you will clearly see most of them are all online 134.73 hrs to be precise!!!!. Which makes 10.64 hrs with Globe offline!!
Now I see your last flight online for Globe was January 2011?? And I If I was to disappear then I'd disconnect from VATSIM by all means. And I do keep an eye on things during the flights.
And I wonder how many other Globe pilots will start flights and go to bed? And how many Globe pilots do you see flying online with VATSIM? Despite you don't have to fly online.
I'll admit there is the same few who do fly online. So I'd say your preaching to the wrong person there?

Re: Titan & Monthly Bids
Yes because I have a new computer with W7 X 64 and have had endless trouble getting things to work with FSX, as has been posted countless times in these forums. One of the problems is that I always like to make my flights online, but cannot get any connection from FSX to Vatsim, with Squawkbox or FSInn. FS9 has no trouble connecting, so I use it when possible.
I have also been on leave for some months due to things happening here, you don't have the slightest idea what is going on with others when you go looking up stats. on people, and then quoting how much they have or have not done. Some get lots of hours up in a short time by using the 2X or 4X speed on the simulators, and some also think the more hours they have, the better they are.
There was no mention of anyone having to be online or whatever. I was hoping you would be offline when you are asleep and your aircraft is flying along, or when you are going off to do what you have to do. I'm sure a lot of us do that, and that is why I mentioned it.
I am not "preaching" to anyone, To start a flight and then go off to sleep, to me sounds ridiculous.
