New Pilot Introduction

Here is where the coffee machine and Coke machine are kept. Please clean up after yourself and do not remove the magazines from this area. A good place to exchange thoughts with Operations personel and other pilots.

"Hi everyone. Just wanted to introduce myself. I just discovered GCI and joined right away. I've been flying my PC around the world since Chuck Yeager's AFT, subLogic Jet, and FS3 were the big 3 on the market. I enjoy the pre-planning and post-analysis portion of simming a little more than the actual flying / monitoring. If something in my post-flight assesment doesn't match my plan ..... I've got to know why. Pretty geekish I guess... <!--emo&--><!--endemo--> I can't say that I prefer to fly any particular type of plane or route. I jump from heavies, to regionals, to GA all the time. I think of myself as a ferry pilot to justify the jumping around. It's always been my policy to fly from a to b. Never jump cities. If I want to see Europe - I fly there. If I want to go back home - I've got to fly back. I'm flying my first leg tonight - SCEL - KMIA and on to KORD to finish my innaugural GCI flight. Yesterday, since my plane was sitting at home in KMEM - I ferried a FedEx MD-11 to SCEL so I could begin my work with Globe. SCEL is a wonderful airport with amazing mountains all around. I hope everyone gets to bid a route down there. I live just east of the outer marker for rwy 27 @ KMEM - so I get to see plenty of FedEx planes - especially between 10pm and midnight. The Memphis sky has landing lights coming in from every direction. It's quite a site. Sadly, I don't get to see any 747's as FedEx doesn't have any, and NWA and UPS doesn't have KMEM on 747 routes. Other than simming, I play Ice Hockey, have a wife and 3 kids, 17, 14, and 9 months (ooops) <!--emo&;)--><!--endemo--> . Just want to say hi to everyone and I'm glad to be here. Globe Cargo seems well thought out and organized. Safe flying, Bob KMEM"

"interesting... I live about the same area, or close <!--emo&:)--><!--endemo--> just north of I-240 & Mt Moriah. ... when I say just north, I have the highway noise-blocking wall in my back yard <!--emo&;)--><!--endemo--> I work as a supervisor in the Transportation Security Administration at KMEM, and have ramp access... drive out to the airport sometime soon this month on a weekday during the day, there's 3 Kallita Air Cargo 747-200's out there <!--emo&:)--><!--endemo--> I'll get some pix soon and post them <!--emo&;)--><!--endemo-->"

That's great information. I guess the 742's typically use the n/s runways as 9/27 is a bit shorter - although I've seen Air Force One using 9/27 - but would imagine it's much lighter than Kalita's setup. I live in Collierville near 385, right where the planes are making the right turn to line up on 27. I'll have to grab my camera and head down there. Memphis is a tough airport for photography. There's not too many vantage points. I think the top floor of the parking garage is a good one, but with all the security going on, I'd be afraid of getting tackled and questioned if I was standing up there with my camera. I'm not sure if you've had the privelage of simulator time at FedEx, but I get a regular invitation over there from a friend to fly the A300. Maybe we can meet up there. Take care, Bob"
