Parking Stands Now on the Airport Data Page

We are happy to announce that parking stands have been added to the Airport data map on the website.

This data is entered manually. Many airports have been completed but nowhere near all have this data yet. The airports used most commonly in our operation were prioritized.

Only stands actually used by our real world counterpart are contained in the data. This means that you can look up the stands at the airports you're operating and be confident it's a realistic location. Furthermore, there are 7 categories of stands: Scheduled Passenger and Cargo, Military Passenger and Cargo, and Charter Passenger, Cargo, Sports. There is a maximum wingspan for each stand for additional information.

Access the Stands data by viewing the Airport data (Flight Operations->Airports). You can turn the Stands on by either selecting the category (or all categories) in the Layers options in the upper right corner of the map view. Scroll down the page to see the Stands textualized along with each category that stand fits into. Finally, you can display specific stands on the map by checking the View On Map checkbox associated with that stand.

GCVA Contracted by vUSAF for Operation Deep Freeze

GCVA is participating this this years' Virtual United States Air Force (vUSAF) Operation Deep Freeze (ODF). There will be charter flights available on the Charter Board in support of this operation.

Operation Deep Freeze is a yearly event hosted by the vUSAF. ODF simulates the movement of personnel and equipment to Antarctica. While we won't be operating flights to the "ice", we will be moving equipment and people who will make the trip to the far South.

We have been contracted to carry a combination of food, station equipment, and scientific equipment. Our routes are primarily PHNL-NZCH and will be available on the Charter Board. These flights will be highlighted at the top. If you are available to operate one of these flight, please consider one of these flights and lets show that GCVA can be entrusted to move the requested items reliably and on-time!

The procedure is simple. Select the flight from the Charter Board and fly it. Management will take care of the coordination with vUSAF to verify the flight was complete. Your callsign will be "CAMBER" and CMB 3-letter code rather than one of our usual callsigns. Flying on VATSIM is highly encouraged however not required.

The contract flights are to be completed between November 25th and December 24th. There will be return flights scheduled in January and February. More information on that as that mission approaches.

Questions? The best sources would be either Mike (@jmtss3) or Darrell (@dxdarrellgordon1557) on Discord.

GCVA 20th Anniversary!

GCVA turned 20 years old on May 29th, 2024!

20 years ago, Ralph Tofflemire, the maker of 747 Ready For Pushback (RFP) started Virtual Atlas Air (VAA) as an outlet to operate the aircraft in a realistic way. Some years later the name was changed to Virtual Globe Cargo and finally Globe Cargo Virtual Airlines.

Some of our past logos (unfortunately, a VAA logo couldn't be found):

In that same time, our real-world counterpart has seen some big changes as well. Atlas Air and Polar Air Cargo merged and later bought and merged Southern Air into the operation. The late 2000's had DHL owning 49% of Polar resulting in DHL hybrid liveries.

This is quite a remarkable feat that puts GCVA among the oldest VA's in existance.

We would like to thank all of our staff, past and present as well as all of our members, both past and present for helping us make it this long!
